But we grow up, become sensible and somehow those dreams never quite happen..... And a dream can only become a reality if you chase it ... and chase it ... AND CHASE IT !!!!" Racing, To compete, To WIN, To cross the finishing line first, To be the best of the best. That is what I strive for when I put my helmet on and go out on the track. I've been Karting since I was 16 years old. My first experience was on my 16th birthday at Streatham Kart Raceway, and from that moment I never looked back. The smell, the engines and just driving the karts was something I instantly took to. From that moment, my time was spent developing my racecraft at Streatham. Over the next four years I steadily improved, but not without its difficulties. Being a tall person means that I am already at a lap-time deficit because I weight more. This was evident when I was on track because I was always 0.3 - 0.6 seconds behind my friends. But with experience comes speed, and suddenly everytime I was jumping in the kart, I was going faster and faster. I have raced in a few karting championships in that time and have produced consistent but not spectacular results. Which was frustrating to see, it was getting so bad with spells of misfortune and sporadic form that I was ready to walk away from karting and return to a career in athletics. After taking a year out of racing in 2010 due to my studies I returned to karting in 2011, forming my own team with friends called Ugbaja Grand Prix. On the 20th February 2011, the team competed in it's first race at TeamSport: Crawley taking part in an Open Endurance Grand Prix. Ugbaja Grand Prix's first victory came at that race with a dominating performance in tricky conditions. Since then the team has moved from strength, with 12 drivers currently racing for Ugbaja Grand Prix and the team has competed in numerous races never finishing out of the top six. 2012 is under-way and sees the team fighting for podiums on a regular basis. With Ugbaja Grand Prix, I have enjoyed good times racing atTeamSport:Crawley in the past year. We have a win, a second place and two fourths to our name. The team has challenged for victory in three of the four GP's we have competed in and we have also lead three of the four GP's we have competed in as well. I have experienced the highs of victory and the lows of defeat. I am sure there are more challenging times ahead, but for now I'll keep pushing and I will never give up. |
